It is very common to have questions about relationships come up in a tarot reading. The tarot card of the year is determined through numerology. To calculate it,we add together the single digits of the year to arrive at the total: 2 + 0 + 2 + 2 = 6. Card six in the tarot is The Lovers card (major arcana), thus making it the card for 2022.
What Is The Lovers Card?
It is one that represents love and relationships, but really is so much more than that. This Lovers card also represents balance, union, partnerships, decisions, and harmony.
The Lovers tarot card suggests that decisions of the heart are at hand. We each have decisions to make about what it means to be a good partner in relationships, who we are ultimately going to choose to move forward with, and who or what we may need to give up in order to allow the chosen relationship(s) to flourish.
This card also reminds us that we can seek divine guidance in these often very difficult choices. We have guides, guardians, and our own higher self to help us through the process.

Above the two figures in the Smith-Rider-Waite Lovers card below, we see a large angelic figure coming out of the clouds. This is the Archangel Raphael, known as the healer of mind, body and spirit, and as a Saint, is the patron of matchmaking and marriage. We call upon this angel when we are in search of a life-partner or soulmate, or when having to make an important decision about key relationships, whether romantic, platonic, in business. This includes our primary relationship–the one we have with ourselves. Archangel Raphael is also the angel of communication, and helps to balance communications between the head and the heart.

The Lovers card in this deck shows a couple standing in front of each other. The male figure is in front of a tree with flames at the tips of its branches. This is the Tree of Life. The 2022 Lovers Card tells us that this is an important year to reevaluate, release, heal and develop the relationships that we hold dear, wish to cultivate, and that no longer serve us.
